Reacting to the outcome of the council housing transfer ballot, Lib Dem Group Leader Cllr David Watkins said:

'We are pleased that this is the right decision for the city and the tenants. They have voted to remain with the council and we believe that this was the best option for them. The margin was extremely high and we hope that this puts an end to this.'

Lib Dem Housing Spokesperson Cllr Paul Elgood added: 'The council has spent an enormous sum on this ballot and the associated publicity. Questions now need to be asked as to whether this was wisely spent.'

Liberal Democrats actively opposed the transfer of the housing stock.
