Lib Dems predict record Conference in Brighton6.58.24pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 6th Sep 2006
Liberal Democrats are predicting their largest ever Party Conference, when the event comes to Brighton later in the month. 4,500 people have already registered for the Conference and the party expects to welcome a record 5,000 people to Brighton. Highlights will include speeches by leader Ming Campbell, as well as former leader Charles Kennedy. Green issues will also be top of the agenda with debates on the party's new Green taxes, based on making the polluter pay. The main Conference events are as follows: Saturday 16 September (afternoon) Consultative sessions on Climate Change, crime policy - no soft options and the European Union Sunday 17th September Consultative sessions on crime in the community, Trident and tackling inequality and poverty Conference Rally: Launch of new environmental policies and the new green tax switch campaign (www.greentaxswitch.com) with Ming Campbell and Chris Huhne Monday 18th September Speech by Michael Moore, Shadow Foreign Secretary Speech by Nick Clegg, Shadow Home Secretary Question and Answer session with Ming Campbell Tuesday 19th September Tax reform debate Speech by Chris Huhne, Shadow Environmental Spokesperson Speech by Charles Kennedy, former Leader of the Liberal Democrats Local government reform debate Wednesday 20th September Speech by Vince Cable, Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer Presentation by Lord Coe, Chair of the London Olympic Games Debate on the General Election policy themes - Trust in People: Make Britain Free, Fair and Green Thursday 21st September Human Rights in the UK Speech by Gregory Yavlinsky Leader Yabloko, our sister party and the main opposition democratic force in Russia Debates on Britain's global responsibilities and the international rule of law Leader's Speech - Ming Campbell The fringe programme is bigger and livelier than ever and all through the week there is a very intensive training program.
