Lansdowne Place communal bin decision11.06.34pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 8th Jun 2006
Tonight the Environment Committee of the Council took the decision to implement the communal bin scheme in Lansdowne Place. Councillor Paul Elgood said: 'In the light of this decision the scheme will be rolled out as soon as possible, and City Clean will now write directly to you. A major street cleaning operation will take place prior to their implementation. It has been agreed that the scheme will be reviewed after six months, and we have received assurances that they will be withdrawn if not working. As part of the decision the Council has also committed to continue to work with residents to take forward the greening proposals. 'We have also asked that the bins be sited as sympathetically as possible. If you have a complaint about their position, please feel free to contact us directly to discuss. We are already working with residents to try to ensure that problems do not occur. Cllr David Watkins said: 'Please remember that elderly or disabled residents who might have difficulty using the bins can receive a permanent assisted collection by calling 292929. 'We would like to take this opportunity of thanking residents for taking the time to participate in the consultation and to give us your views. It has been a pleasure to work with residents closely on this issue.'
