King Alfred comment

10.23.09am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 28th Apr 2006

Commenting on the news that English Heritage and CABE have failed to support plans for the redevelopment of the King Alfred, Lib Dem Councillor Paul Elgood said:

'The Plans cannot go ahead without the support of English Heritage, and they raise very valid concerns which confirm that this application was not right.

'But we do not want to see the sports centre and the affordable housing elements of the scheme lost.

'People have been coming up to me in the street asking if it is all over for the scheme. Most of the public do not want to see the scheme just killed off and are concerned that the site could remain semi-derelict for the next 20 years.'
