Lib Dems help defeat 'wrong' Park & Ride proposal

8.41.50pm GMT Fri 9th Dec 2005

Liberal Democrat Councillors have helped to reject plans for Park and Ride for the City. A compromise proposal for Patcham Court Farm was brought forward for consideration, following a huge campaign against plans for a larger site there. Both options, and one for Braypool, were widely criticised as damaging to the local environment.

Lib Dem Environment and Transport Spokesperson, Councillor Paul Elgood said: "If this was a proper proposal I would be supporting it but this is wrong. Instead its a recipe for chaos."

The Lib Dems opposed a bid by Labour Councillors to delay the decision, and also one by Green Councillors which would have meant that a decision to turn down the site was not made.
