Flawed Waste Plan challenged: Greens, Labour and Tories block Lib Dem call-in bid

11.26.52am GMT Fri 25th Nov 2005

Liberal Democrat Councillors have again challenged the latest stage of the Waste Local Plan, but their bid to get the plan called-in at the first available opportunity was blocked by Green, Labour and Tory Councillors.

Speaking in the debate, at tonight's full council meeting of Brighton and Hove City Council, Lib Dem Environment Spokesperson Paul Elgood said:

''What we have here is a real tragedy. We should have acted much longer ago on improving recycling. There is uproar across the county at the proposal of the incinerator.

After the Greens OPPOSED the call-in bid, Paul added:

'How can the Greens call themselves Green when they blocked the chance to get this called-in for better consideration?'
