A bid for six masts on council-owned sites has been rejected by councillors. At Wednesday's Policy & Resources Committee sites including Norton Road Car Park, Saunders Hill and the Hollingdean Depot were turned down for consideration in the council's role as landlord.

Lib Dem Leader, Councillor Paul Elgood said: 'This is a warning to the telecommunications industry that the city doesn't want a forest of mobile phone masts close to homes and schools and we will continue to fight every application.'

Liberal Democrats moved a successful amendment last year to ensure that the such decisions are made by councillors and not delegated to closed-door and unaccountable decision-making by officers.
