The rainbow flag will be flying over main council buildings as part of Brighton & Hove's forthcoming Pride celebrations.

The flag is expected to fly over Hove Town Hall, Brighton Town Hall and the council's King's House HQ in Grand Avenue, Hove, from Saturday 30 July to the following weekend. The main Pride parade and celebrations take place on Saturday August 6.

Chair of the council's equalities committee Councillor Paul Elgood said: "Last year Brighton & Hove City Council recognised the importance of Pride to the city by flying the rainbow flag on civic buildings. This was terribly important for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender [lgbt] community for whom this is much more than a symbolic gesture but reflects that the city council recognises and embraces the contribution of the community in the city.

"I am delighted that the rainbow flag will fly again during Pride Week this year. We are looking forward to a tremendous set of Pride events."
