Liberal Democrat Councillors have re-asserted their belief that Braypool is the wrong site for Park & Ride in the City. The Lib Dems moved the original amendment to the Local Plan which rules out Park & Ride developments north of the by-pass. They argue that the green belt north of the by-pass must be protected as part of the South Downs National Park.

Meeting RSPCA representatives at their demonstration at last week's City Council Meeting, Councillor Paul Elgood said:

'We are 100% against Braypool as a Park & Ride site. It is the wrong site and will be damaging to the National Park.

'There is a case for Park & Ride in the City with the aim of getting people out of their cars and onto sustainable public transport as they enter the City and to reduce pollution. But only if there is a reduction in the number of City Centre parking spaces to balance it.'
