Local Councillors demand restorative action on Palmeira House Tesco10.02.59pm GMT Fri 4th Feb 2005
Brunswick & Adelaide Ward councillors David Watkins and Paul Elgood have renewed their call on Tesco to return historic features to their Palmeira House store. The planning dispute has rumbled for months, but the ward councillors insist that the council must not give way until the historic features of the 1870s building are restored. At Wednesday's Planning meeting, Cllr David Watkins said: 'They wanted us to roll over on this but we won't. Tesco must restore the building and put back the historic features taken out.' Cllr Paul Elgood added: 'This is nothing less than heritage vandalism. Tesco must contribute to this community and make right the original features.'
