Lib Dems fight 'incineration madness'

7.36.03pm GMT Wed 8th Dec 2004

Liberal Democrats have continued their fight against proposals for incineration as a way of dealing with the City's waste crisis. Brighton & Hove Lib Dem Councillors again backed their colleagues in East Sussex fighting the plans, which include an incinerator at Newhaven.

Voting against the latest stage of the waste local plan at tonight's Policy & Resources Meeting, Councillor David Watkins said:

'This is incineration madness. There is huge over-reliance on burning our waste instead of recycling it. Brighton & Hove is far behind other areas in its recycling, This must be properly addressed as an alternative to burning our waste.'
