Reacting to the news that 160,546 parking fines were issued last year in Brighton & Hove, costing motorists £4,808,000, Lib Dem Environment Spokesperson, Councillor Paul Elgood said:

'The council needs to provide a sustainable alternative such as Park and Ride to get people out of their cars before they come into the city centre.

'At the moment they're using the stick without the carrot. We have always argued that there should be an incentive to get people out of their cars.'
