Action to increase voter turnout

Liberal Democrats have sought action by the City Council to help increase voter turnout in this year's European Elections. In 1999 just 24% of voters used cast their ballot in the European Elections.

In a debate at Thursday's City Council Meeting on far right politics, Lib Dem Councillors successful moved that the Council should seek to help increase election turnout locally by using 'City News' to encourage residents to vote.

Lib Dem City Councillor Dawn Davidson said: 'The Council should be playing its role in increasing turnout and so thwarting the activities of far right groups who thrive on apathy.'
