Liberal Democrats are backing the campaign for Brighton & Hove to become the first Fairtrade city in the south of England.

Paul Elgood, leader of the Liberal Democrat group, said: "It is excellent that councillors and council employees will be using Fair Trade items, as far as possible. Fair Trade contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalized producers and workers in the developing world. The City Council should be setting an example and leading the way on this.'
