"Sunday Times" Survey Puts Brighton and Hove in the Worst Ten "Under-performing" Councils

12.00.00am GMT Sun 14th Dec 2003

Liberal Democrat councillors say that improvements must be made to public services in the city following a damming verdict in a survey of 'under performing' councils by 'The Sunday Times' today.

Lib Dem City Council Group Leader, Councillor Paul Elgood said:

"This is damming incitement of how this council is run. Improvements must be made in key public service areas such as the delivery of core services. Under Labour this council has been unable to get the basics right even though the council tax has rocketed. This must change ? residents deserve better."

'The Sunday Times' scored the council at just 1.36, based on a score out of four in 30 council services and compared to band D council tax, currently at £1,074 in the city.
