The Future of Hove Library4.56.46pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 3rd Oct 2003
The council is reviewing the future of Hove Library. Options could include moving the Library to Hove Town Hall and closing the present well-used building. The building has been neglected in recent years and fails to meet modern disabled access requirements. Two years ago Lib Dem councillors demanded that a disabled lift was fitted, however, the council failed to do this for financial reasons. Now the situation has caught up with the council and new legislation on access requirements means that council must act. Liberal Democrats want to hear your views on the route the council should take. Lib Dem Group Leader, Councillor Paul Elgood said: "The present Hove Library building is a much loved centre piece to our community. There must be full consultation on the way forward. This cannot be railroaded through without the agreement of residents and users of the Library."
