Lib Dems Ask You1.18.05pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 3rd Jun 2003
Brighton & Hove's Liberal Democrat councillors are asking local residents and businesses what they think the top priority should be for the hung council. A special web poll has been set up asking for views on the key issues facing the city over the next twelve months. Launching the poll, Lib Dem City Council Leader, Councillor Paul Elgood said: "Its important that we constantly ask residents and key stakeholders for their views on the direction the city should be taking." "We have produce a simple litmus test to find out what people think the council's top priority should be. There are many issues facing the city, however, we want to try and gauge which of these problems is the biggest concern to local people." "We have narrowed down a list of issues to five city-wide reoccurring themes, dealing with problems from public services to transportation. We see these issues as ones which the council in one form or another will have to address over the next six months." "It is important that the new council has clear direction on what local people think - this will avoid stagnation or a breakdown in leadership." "A hung council will only work if it listens closely to the views of local people."
